The Places I’ve Cried in Public by, Holly Bourne.

This was my bookclubs February read and I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey Holly Bourne has taken me on.

It was one hell of a rollercoaster! I laughed and cried my way through this book. It covers an extremely difficult subject that I feel is vitally important that all young adults should be made aware of but (I hope) never ever have to experience.

As a sufferer of low self esteem, I found myself really relating to Amelie and I just wanted to climb into the pages and give her a huge cuddle and a hard shake at the same time. I found it incredibly difficult to put this book down and pretty much read it in one sitting. I was hooked from the very first page.

Holly’s writing style is flawless, she expertly jumps from Amelie’s past and present experiences whilst fully keeping you engaged as if you’re a part of the story.

I desperately didn’t want this story to end and I would have loved to read more about Alfie and Hannah but, the ending is perfect. Trust me, you’ll close the book with a smile on your face albeit with a blotchy face from all of the crying you will have done throughout the book!

I would recommend this book to everyone aged 16+. Due to the extremely sensitive topics covered throughout, reader discretion is advised.
